Code of Conduct for Teachers, Staff and Volunteers

The aim of the Dancing Petals as a Dance School is to ensure that all students experience dance in a positive and safe environment. We are fully committed to creating a safety culture. In order to achieve this, it is important that the following Code of Conduct is read, respected and adhered to at all times. Breaching the Code of Conduct will lead to disciplinary action and, in extreme cases, will result in loss of employment.

Dancing Petals Teachers, Staff and Volunteers must:

  • Demonstrate professionalism and present oneself in a professional manner, reflecting the values of the dance school.

  • Uphold the highest standards of integrity, honesty, and ethical behavior.

  • Treat all students, parents, and colleagues with respect and courtesy.

  • Maintain good relationships with students, exercise appropriate authority and act decisively when necessary.

  • Embrace and celebrate diversity, fostering an inclusive and supportive atmosphere for all.

  • Demonstrate a genuine passion for dance and teaching, inspiring students to love and appreciate the art form.

  • Be well-prepared with lesson plans, music, and any necessary materials for class.

  • Ensure that the dance studio is a safe environment.

  • Prioritize the safety and well-being of students. Remain calm in stressful situations.

  • Follow proper warm-up and safe dance procedures. Develop exercises in accordance with students’ physical, motor and psychological level of understanding and current ability.

  • Apply appropriate teaching aims and assessment procedures to students.

  • Draw on a range of written, oral and non-verbal communication behaviors while teaching.

  • Use positive reinforcement and constructive feedback to motivate and inspire students.

  • Develop self-discipline and self motivation in the students.

  • Arrive on time for all classes, rehearsals, and events. Demonstrate commitment to scheduled classes, rehearsals, and performances. Notify appropriate parties in advance if unable to fulfill teaching obligations.

  • Maintain open and effective communication with students, parents, and colleagues.

  • Respond promptly to emails, messages, and inquiries.

  • Respect the privacy of students and colleagues by keeping personal information confidential.

  • Address conflicts in a timely and constructive manner, promoting resolution and understanding.

  • Not publish (in print or social media) any matter that might damage the standing of the profession or depreciate the reputation of any colleague.

  • Engage in ongoing professional development to stay informed about current dance trends, teaching methods, and safety practices.

  • Ensure law is followed with regard to copyright, recording, public performance and other matters concerning media sharing, printed matter and recorded music.

  • Ensure the provision of adequate public/products liability insurance.

  • Acknowledge and adhere to any updates or revisions to the Code of Conduct.

  • Stay updated on all Dancing Petals policies. (Health and Safety, Child Protection, Date Protection, etc)

Code of Conduct for Parents/ Carers

The aim of the Dancing Petals as a Dance School is to ensure that all students experience dance in a positive and safe environment. We are fully committed to creating a safety culture. In order to achieve this, it is important that the following Code of Conduct is read, respected and adhered to at all times. A breach of this Code of Conduct may have repercussions and, in extreme cases, may result in your child/children(s) suspension, or expulsion from the school.

All Parents/ Carers must:

  • Treat staff, teachers and volunteers with courtesy and respect.

  • Allow teachers to conduct classes without interference.

  • Communicate in a constructive and respectful manner. Use correct and proper language at all times.

  • Not raise issues of disagreement publicly. Raise concerns or issues through appropriate channels, such as scheduled meetings or email.

  • Ensure that your child arrives on time for classes and rehearsals. Inform the school promptly if your child will be absent or late.

  • Always collect your child promptly at the end of a class.

  • Encourage regular attendance and commitment to classes and rehearsals. Insufficient attendance may result in exclusion from exams and dance opportunities.

  • Support your child's dedication to the art of dance.

  • Encourage your child to learn the rules and perform within them.

  • Ensure that your child is appropriately dressed and, as applicable, has hair tied back neatly for each dance class.

  • Ensure your child carries a notebook, pencil/ pen, a bottle of water and their ghungru for each dance class.

  • Encourage and support your child's dance journey in a positive manner. Be realistic with regard to their ability and do not set expectations too high – It can be very damaging for children if they feel they are falling short of their parents’ expectations

  • Avoid negative comments or comparisons with other students. Each student is an individual with different goals and objectives and they must be praised on their own personal achievement.

  • Not belittle a child for poor performance or making mistakes. It is through mistakes that performers learn and develop.

  • Respect the school's policy on observing classes and rehearsals. Limit observation to designated areas to minimize distractions. No parent/carer is allowed into the studio during regular classes.

  • Ensure timely payment of tuition and fees. Communicate with the school regarding any financial concerns.

  • Address conflicts with other parents, students, or staff through open communication.

  • Avoid gossip and negative discussions that may harm the dance community, in person and on social media

  • Consider volunteering time and skills to support dance events and activities.

Code of conduct for students

The aim of the Dancing Petals as a Dance School is to ensure that all students experience dance in a fun, friendly, positive and safe environment. We are fully committed to creating a safety culture. In order to achieve this, it is important that the following Code of Conduct is read, respected and adhered to at all times.

Breach of this Code of Conduct may result in consequences, including but not limited to verbal warnings, parent conferences and suspension from classes. In extreme cases, where physical violence, verbal abuse or intentional damage to property is involved, the teacher will contact parents directly and exclusion of the child from classes may be considered.

All Students must:

  • Listen attentively to instructors during class. Follow instructions promptly and respectfully.

  • Give best effort during every class and rehearsal. Stay focused on the instructions and choreography.

  • Treat other students with kindness and respect. Do not distract, bully or harass other students during the class.

  • Avoid negative comments or behaviors that may disrupt the learning environment. Be polite and do not use bad language.

  • Resolve conflicts through open communication. Seek assistance from teacher or staff if conflicts persist.

  • Foster a positive and supportive atmosphere. Encourage and uplift your fellow dancers

  • Arrive on time for all classes, rehearsals, and performances. Notify the instructor or the school in advance if you are unable to attend a class or rehearsal.

  • Attend classes and rehearsals regularly and with dedication.

  • Communicate with instructors regarding any challenges that may affect your attendance or commitment.

  • Dress appropriately and, as applicable, tie hair back neatly for each class and performance.

  • Carry a notebook, pencil/ pen and ghungru for each dance class.

  • Treat dance studio facilities and equipment with care.

  • Food, drink and chewing gum are strictly prohibited in the Studio space.

  • Bring in a sealed drinking bottle containing water and your name on it.

  • Place all litter in the bins provided and report any damages or issues to the staff.

  • Not bring any valuables to class. Dancing Petals will not be held responsible for the loss of any items.

  • Switch off mobile phones and other electronic devices during classes.

  • Represent Dancing Petals positively on social media. Refrain from posting negative or inappropriate content related to the dance school.

  • Inform the teacher (before the warm up begins) of any an injury or illness.

  • Inform the teacher immediately if you begin to feel ill or sustain an injury during the class.

  • Finally, we would love it if all students enter the class with a smile and have fun!!!
