Health and Safety Policy
This policy details the necessary steps required to ensure the safety and well being of our staff and students whilst they are in our care. We are committed to promoting the well being of all who interact with us, e.g., our students and their parents/ carers, our staff, studio space renters and volunteers.
All parents must complete a Student Registration Form when joining us, with clear information regarding contacts and any relevant medical history.
A copy of primary and emergency contact numbers will be kept on class registers.
It is the Parents/carers responsibility to notify us of any changes to emergency contact details.
Parents/carers or students must inform their teacher of any existing injuries, medical conditions/needs (e.g. Asthma, use of an EpiPen or diabetic monitoring) or any symptoms of infection.
Teachers are not responsible for the safety and well being of students outside of the dance class or during online classes.
Parents/carers must ensure their children act safely and respectfully outside of the class or during online classes.
Parents/carers must ensure that their children are dressed appropriately for class and, as applicable, have long hair tied back securely.
Parents/carers must ensure timely drop off and pick up of their children to and from Dancing Petals dance classes.
Any unidentified persons around the dance studios will be reported to the manager immediately.
At the end of each lesson the younger children will be escorted out to their parents/ carers.
No food (or chewing gum) is allowed in the studio. Water is permitted in bottles with a secure cap.
Teachers are committed to safe practice whilst teaching in all capacities but students do partake at their own risk.
Sufficient warm up and cool downs will be included in all lessons – this aims to avoids injury and will speed up recovery process.
While every care is taken to reduce the risk of injury and infection, the school does not accept responsibility for any injury or infection caused within or outside of the dance class.
Parents/carers must understand that Dance is an active sport and injuries can happen and we accept no responsibility for injuries sustained.
Studio safety checks are done annually to ensure mirrors, floor, doors, lighting and light switches and plug sockets are repaired and pose no risk to staff and students. We undertake regular assessment of our premises and any concerns are raised with the relevant caretaker.

STAFF TRAINING
All our staff holds appropriate qualifications from their respective accreditation bodies.
All our staff have been regularly consulted and informed about the school policies and procedures, including safety measures, safeguarding and reporting requirements. (Refer to our Child Protection, Data Protection and Code of Conduct policies)
FIRST AID
There will always be at least one member of staff present with Emergency First Aid qualification.
The first aid kit in addition to any equipment available in the Studio will be checked every 18 months and supplies replaced as necessary.
In an emergency all teachers are first aid trained and will act in loco parentis if parents/carers are not present and will call an ambulance.
FIRE SAFETY
All studios have clearly marked fire exits, and a meeting point has been established across the car park.
In case of a fire emergency, all teachers have a clear understanding of procedures to follow and to keep calm.
There is strictly no smoking permitted in the building or on site.
All equipment has been tested and we run our power cables to the nearest access points, out of reach of students.
We undertake regular assessment of our premises and any concerns are raised with the relevant caretaker.
